Every cryptic solver has scrawled letters on the margin of a newspaper. The Anagrind is that — but cleaner, faster, and always in your pocket.
Type your anagram letters and add the enumeration: (4,3) or 6-3 or 3'2 — to see the word structure laid out as answer slots. Not sure of a letter? Type a ? to hold its place with a blank tile.
Enter the straight part of the clue so you stay anchored to what you're looking for while you work the letters.
Drag a letter into a slot — or into a discard slot to set it aside — or use 'tap and place' instead. Long press a placed letter to lock it in; long press an unplaced letter to fade it. Split vowels and consonants with a pinch gesture.
Tap Rescramble to reposition the remaining letters. Long press Rescramble to return all unlocked letters to the board and start fresh.
Tap the active tab, long press the board, or swipe right to jump back and edit the fodder or enumeration — your placements are kept.
The Anagrind isn't an anagram solver. It doesn't hand you the answer. It gives you a better workspace. The hard work, and the satisfaction, remains entirely yours.

Long press a placed letter to lock it in. Locked letters survive rescrambles — perfect when crossword checking letters confirm a position.
Pinch out to split the board into vowels and consonants. Pinch in to remix all letters. Choose whether to treat Y as a vowel or consonant.
Enter ? for letters you haven't cracked yet. When the penny drops, long press the blank to pencil in its letter — or lock it through rescrambles.
Keep the straight part of the clue visible while you solve. No more glancing back at the crossword to remember what word you're after.
Label each board with the clue reference — 13A, 27D — so you always know which clue you're working on.
Cryptic clues sometimes tell you to discard letters. Type the full fodder anyway — if it's longer than the enumeration, discard slots appear on the solve board automatically.
Long press an unplaced letter to fade it — a quiet way to change your mental map of the board.
Work up to 12 anagram clues simultaneously. Sometimes the letters from one unsolved clue unlock another.
